April 2017 fishing report

Fishing Charters St Simons Island, GA

Hello here is our latest fishing report for April . The fishing has been pretty good but a bit tricky at times due to muddy waters and a good bit of windy days. For the most part we have caught a mixed bag of trout with some being under the size limit and others being really nice 18+ inch trout that are fat and full of roe. Most of the trout have been caught either on live shrimp under a popping cork or on D.O.A. shrimp under a popping cork.

Redfish have been pretty good as well we are finding a few schools around the oyster beds and on the flats but the schools still aren’t as plentiful  as they should be. There have also been reports of bull redfish being caught out off of the sand bars near shore but I haven’t had a chance to fish for them myself.

tripletail charters

Now onto my favorite fish the Tripletail! Tripletail showed up at the beginning of April and we have caught some really nice ones 20-25 inches and of course some smaller ones as well. I haven’t had a trip yet this year that we have not seen and caught tripletail.

The bite should continue to be strong for both trout and redfish even without the live bait being plentiful. Sight fishing for tripletail should be good through the end of may until they head into the rivers after spawning.  Thanks for reading and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to book a trip!
