May fishing Trips St Simons Island

May fishing trips St Simons Island 2015 is off to a good start. Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Stan and Bryce from north Georgia. This morning we fished the last of the tide going out and the first of the incoming tide. The water clarity was pretty good, a lot better than what we have been dealing with lately and we stayed in the creeks behind St Simons Island. We started out catching trout using live shrimp under popping cork in 6 to 8 foot of water, we also caught several on Berkley gulp shrimp.  The trout bite continued pretty strong all the way to the bottom of the tide and then it pretty much shut off. Once the tide was all the way down we moved around and found a few nice redfish that were chasing mullet on the mud flats.  After the tide started coming in we managed to end the day with a couple more trout and a nice flounder.

We have been catching good numbers of trout and redfish all month long some days the trout are mostly small and other days we are finding some really nice 20 inch trout. The water clarity has been horrible or the wind has been blowing it seems like all month so most days were having to do a lot of running to find and figure the fish out.

Now on to the tripletail bite everyone’s favorite thing to fish for in the month of May. The tripletail have been here in good numbers this year. Most of the fish we have been seeing have been a mile or 2 off of Jekyll Island beach some days they are really aggressive and crush the baits as soon as you put it in front of them and other days they look at the shrimp and swim off but that’s to be expected when tripletail fishing.

The rest of the month should continue to be good we have some good tides coming up for the end of the month. We will continue to look for tripletail off of the beach of Jekyll Island and fish for trout and redfish behind Jekyll and St Simons Island. Shark fishing behind the shrimp boats is kicking off pretty good and we will start targeting them more as the water warms up and the boats get closer in.
